Bohorquez-Paola-bw

My editorial practice has grown organically and in tune with my own research and teaching interests. I am an active writer, researcher, and writing instructor with a Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought and a wide interdisciplinary formation in social theory, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, and psychoanalysis. Since 2008, I have taught academic writing, composition, and rhetoric at university and college levels and have worked as an editor on multiple writing projects in various stages of the process, from rough draft to final manuscript.

As an academic writer myself, I understand first-hand the pressures, anxieties, and the sense of isolation that often accompanies the work of writing. In approaching my editorial practice as a collaborative exchange, I pay as much attention to bringing the manuscript to fruition as to the author’s process of writing and revision of the text.

Deeply influenced by my transcultural and bilingual life experiences, my doctoral work on translingual writing and ongoing research on decolonizing writing pedagogies have shaped my ethical stance as editor and writing mentor. I see my work as contributing to the process of deterritorializing academic writing by helping bring forth a multiplicity of voices whose diversity continues to develop and enrich the grammatical, stylistic, and rhetorical conventions of academic English.
